Buyers and Sellers: Use Your Broker’s Specific Knowledge
Find a qualified, well-versed broker who knows what they’re doing. I think what’s imperative is that the broker that you’re working with has some type of background in the style of manufacture of the particular boat that you’re looking at. If it’s a sailboat or other specific boat type, you really have to know what you’re talking about to really guide someone properly. If I have a buyer call me, one of the first questions out of my mouth is, Are you working with a broker right now? A broker can bring added value to the table. His knowledge base on what surveyors to use, what haulout facility, he knows the insurance rates, and then the actual knowledge of the boat itself—all that expertise is important.
