Newport Is Just Around the Corner—Have You Called Your Broker Yet?
Newport broker Sarah Strauch for Denison Yacht Sales is excited about the upcoming Newport International Boat Show, which is fast approaching on September 15 to 18, 2016. Strauch has some great advice for boaters looking forward to hitting the docks in search of the deals.
“Today’s market is strong and people are very excited about sailing,” Strauch says. “I find that most people are informed and have done their online research before they come and speak to me.” Strauch cites the available information on the various boat web sites as being a great resource, complete with many photos and detailed specs on the boats. But a good broker knows what’s going on in the market and can help steer your decisions.
“In my experience, smart, proactive boat shoppers will start the process in the Fall,” Strauch says. “Then they have the winter to get the boat ready for spring. The pressure is off, so to speak, and they’re first in line to splash in the spring.”
But what if you’re new to the sport? “The most important thing about buying a boat—and it’s an exciting process—is that you need to trust the broker that you’ve chosen to help you buy,” Strauch says. “You need to know that they have your best interests at heart, especially if you’re a first-time buyer. Your broker should ensure that you have a positive experience, whether you’re buying or selling.” If you don’t get that good feeling from your broker, maybe you need a new one. After all, it’s boat show season. It’s time to buy a boat!
